The Community Connectors are back at it again this year. Our 4th annual awards & recognition Unity Networking Night event is set for Saturday July 25, 2026  in Columbia Maryland at the Elite Holiday Inn Columbia East on 7900 washington Blvd. Jessup Maryland.  


There is low fee of $ 55 early bird special until May 1st per attendee this year to attend to receive the benefits of getting in the network room to exchange business information, enjoy entertainment, and book clients and the ability to shop with businesses on site as well as enjoy a great meal. This event will be the highlight of the year for The DMV area.

If you know me at all, this a great way to be represented through social media as I love to help brand people and there will be perks! (Always perks with Focus Forward with Robin) My Partner Michael A. Embry Sr. and I had such a great time last 2 years highlighting people from around the country with Awards, Entertainment and Business networking. Everyone must register to attend, no matter who you are. We are limited to the number of people in the room, so therefore we have to have a headcount. We will not be taking tickets at the door.

The Robin Shockley Humanitarian Award 

This award is presented to someone who has been serving behind the scenes for multiple years. The recipient is acknowledged for community serving in small and big capacities. They do not have to have a business or non profit but have been a positive role model in the community to inpact one generation to another by the positive seeds they sow today for all mankind regardless of race sex or background. This honoree chooses to be humble and kind in any situation helping behind the scenes. This award is presented yearly as a token of appreciation for the walk in life they live as an example to display peace love and harmony for all people in which the honoree connects with.


 Also, some of proceeds from event sales with help us contribute donations to a charity of choice as we gave $300 and $500 over the years! (See article write up here for one of our contributions:

Media Mogul Dr. Vonnya Pettigrew, HonD is the CEO, founder and

visionary of the Root Branch empire consisting of: The RBMG Building,

Root Branch Office Solutions, Root Branch Press Coffee & Co., 501(c)3

Root Branch Arts and Outreach Institute Inc., and Root Branch Media

Group, an award-winning media production firm headquartered along Baltimore's beautiful waterfront in Canton Harbor.


Dr. Pettigrew has thirty years of professional media experience as a

filmmaker, writer, TV producer, director, media instructor and casting agent. She’s produced content for government agencies, corporations, universities, and broadcast networks.


Dr. Pettigrew is a Philadelphia native. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications

from the University of Maryland College Park. She is an alum of Baltimore Leadership Class, and

Goldman Sachs 10KSB.

Dr. Pettigrew is a member of The CEO Club, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, NABJ

- National Association of Black Journalist, BABJ – Baltimore Association of Black Journalist, the

Baltimore City Chamber of Commerce, NAWBO - National Association of Women Business

Owners DC, Distinguished Toastmaster, and former White House Intern (1999 President Clinton).


In February 2024 Dr. Pettigrew made history. Kicking off Black History Month she was recognize

by elected officials in the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland as the first African American

woman of Maryland to buy a block along Baltimore’s waterfront.


In 2023 she received an honorary doctorate degree in Business Philosophy from Trinity

International University of Ambassadors (TIUA). Also, in 2023 was named Top 100 Women in

Maryland by the Daily Record and received the Women of Vision Award by the Women in Film

and Video (WIFV) in Washington, DC. Other recipients of this distinguished award include Cicely

Tyson, Ruby Dee, Gwen Ifill, Penny Marshall and Tipper Gore.

She’s been written about and featured in over 50 publications and online media outlets including

Bloomberg Quarterly Report, Black Enterprise, Baltimore Business Journal, The Daily Record,

Baltimore Times, Baltimore Magazine, Voyage Baltimore, Travel Noir, The AFRO, and Voice of

America.


Dr. Pettigrew has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Red Cross of Central Maryland.

She has served in the past on the City of Baltimore Workforce Development Board appointed by

Mayor Brandon Scott, and currently sits on the advisory council for Frostburg State University

Department of Communication





We have our very own DJ Blaq coming back for another year to help highlight our entertainers for the 4th Annual Unity Networking & Awards Night event.






Entertainment:

We will have entertainment in the room representing all genres of music, from country, gospel, hip hop and jazz.  Entertainment is not limited to music only as we will have a variety of demonstrations of entertainment.


**Entertainment must be clean and positive approved by Focus Forward with Robin & Rising Star Talent Group. Entertainers receive a flyer promo to circulate on social media created by swiftmag media - one of our Sponsors for event.
